I recently went to a friend's wedding on a nice warm day. I was wearing a pale pink and wanted to go for a half up, half down style. I love messing around with braids so I went with this winding french braid. It involved braiding a thin layer on the top of my head and then winding the braid down to another thin layer. I then secured it with a small elastic and a flower pin for a summer effect. Here is how it turned out:

It held up all through the wedding (always a good thing)!

Hair for Fancy Night.

I recently had a fancy night out and decided to pounce on the opportunity to do an elaborate hairstyle I've been wanting to try out. It wasn't an everyday sort of look so I had to wait for a formal occasion (I did wear it to school the next day but that was partially because I was too lazy to take out the style). It didn't look like much from the front:

But the back was pretty elaborate!

It was a winding french braid that ended in a little bun that mimicked the petals of a flower. I then pinned a little flower in the middle for effect.

The night turned out great!

Wedding Updo.

Never underestimate the importance of bobby pins.

My dad's big day had finally arrived and I was still torn between two updos to wear to his wedding... I woke up with raging bedhead and decided that on that particular day, I was in the mood for this one!

It consisted of a poof by the crown of my head and then just a bunch of crisscrossed twists. And LOTS of bobby pins. I did this style while half asleep and thanked my locks for being so cooperative for the day. The style even held up through pictures outside in the wind (this was taken after that whole ordeal)! I left my usual side bangs out in front like so:

I wore a Jones New York dress with black tights and heels, and just did some simple makeup since it was a daytime wedding with no particular dress requirements. The simplicity of the outfit and hairstyle as a whole was really great, especially since I was in a time crunch during a slightly chaotic morning.

The wedding turned out amazingly!

Re-invent the basics

When it comes to getting up in the morning to go to work I'm usually rushed due to my lack of motivation to leave my warm comfy bed. I've gotten the whole "no time to get ready" down to a science for my hair. I go with the simple formula of a low, side-swept messy bun. It usually settles my layers pretty well and frames my face without requiring much fuss. Recently I had a morning when i actually had enough time to do something funky with my usual style:

I added rows of french braids that wrapped around the back of my head and ended in the usual side bun. A definite fun time with my lazy style.

Hair Style of the Bridesmaid.

In my last post I had mentioned that I was attempting to find a suitable hairstyle for an upcoming wedding... Well, the wedding was this past week and it was really wonderful. I was a bridesmaid and had the option of getting my hair and makeup done professionally along with the bride and the rest of the bridesmaids. As appealing as this was, I wasn't quite ready to pay for someone to do something that I find to be a way to bring out my own personal touch. I know what I like and the makeup I use on myself is tried and true. So I began the journey (more like research) to find good tips on makeup and hair for weddings.

I soon became obsessed with watching a girl Kaley's channel on You Tube. You can become obsessed too by clicking here. She is so very talented and her tutorials are easy to follow. I learned how to do the hairstyle from my last post from her and I used another one of her tutorials for my hairstyle for the wedding. This is how it turned out:

The style was well contained and held up all the way until I jumped in the hotel pool after the wedding. Here is what the style looked like from the front (and an idea of what the makeup looked like):

  

 I do look like I'm trying to hold my eyes open in this picture but this is the only shot I could get before I was whisked off to bridesmaid duties.

As much as I would love to be, I am not a real life professional makeup/hair artist but I did get asked multiple times if my hair and makeup were professionally done. I silently celebrated my work well done whenever I was asked.

Hair Style of the Night.

I'll be attending a wedding quite soon so the thing that was on my mind today was "oh my goodness, what am I going to do with my hair?!?". At the moment my hair is in a state of needing a trim (as it always is but I tend to ignore) so the style that I'll be going for will need to conceal that fact as much as possible, although I do want to keep my hair half down because I find that that sort of style suits me best. Tonight I had a little reunion of sorts so I decided to try this one out:

It's a waterfall braid that starts at one end and wraps around my head, ending in a small single braid. I left my hair in its natural curly (and unruly) state but for the wedding I would neaten up the curls with a curling iron. Here are a couple close-ups of the waterfall braid:

 

Here is what the braid that ended it off looked like:

By the end of the night I decided that this style might be a little too risky in the sense that my hair may return to its unruly state during the later hours of the wedding, even if I use heat on it, because this stye is a little free flowing rather than contained. Although I did have fun with this style, I still need to confront the "oh my goodness, what am I going to do with my hair?!?" question. Maybe I'll have better luck tomorrow.
